ABOUT...

Leadership is a way of living in the midst of the people of God which persistently reminds us and the people of the priority of God’s reign over our lives

My prime passion is to preach the good news of Jesus whenever and wherever I am invited.

Relatively recently I have begun to write. For 15 years I have contributed to Scripture Union Bible study notes, and have published 2 books, with a 3rd in preparation.

During my time as Rector of St. Saviour’s Guildford I was able to help prepare 30 candidates for ordination, and since my retirement I have spent many hours encouraging church leaders in various parts of the country.

Zoe Ministry was set up in 2010 as a vehicle for the development of these ministries.

I was born in Buxton, Derbyshire, where my father was a Church of England minister. From there the family moved first to Bolton, then to St. Helens and finally to Leeds.

I took a degree in English and Theology from Leeds University and subsequently an MA from Manchester University. My thesis was a study in modern literature and pastoral care.

I was ordained in 1969 and served curacies in Tonbridge, Kent and Shipley, W. Yorkshire. My first Incumbency was in Bolton, at the church where my father had been Incumbent 25years earlier! We then moved to St. Saviour’s Guildford where I was Rector for 26 years, retiring in 2010.

I am married to Sue and we have 3 children and 5 grandchildren. In 2018 we moved to Derby where we worship at St. Werburgh’s which is a Holy Trinity Brompton plant led by our son-in-law.

This blog could be for you!

I’m writing for people who are in positions of leadership within the Church whether the designated leader, or a member of a church leadership team, or an unpaid leader within the church. But I also have in mind members of congregations who have leadership done to them. Maybe I’m writing for you especially, in the hope that you may gain some insights into how your leader thinks and feels, and so guage how best to encourage (or restrain!) her. Or gain help in restraining yourself!
